ENGLAND, UK – Prince William has pledged to bring “change for good” to the monarchy when he becomes king, in what palace aides describe as one of his most candid interviews to date.
Speaking to actor Eugene Levy for Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveller, the Prince of Wales said he embraced the idea of reform, though not of a “radical” nature.
“I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda,” William said during a tour of Windsor Castle. “Not overly radical, but changes that I think need to happen. I don’t fear it – that’s the bit that excites me.”
Arriving to meet Levy on an electric scooter, William offered a relaxed view of royal life, from family pressures to football.
He reflected on balancing tradition with modern expectations, saying he often asks: “Is that still fit for purpose today? Are we having the most impact we could be having?”
The wide-ranging interview touched on deeply personal matters, including the strain of both his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, and King Charles III undergoing cancer treatment.
“Stuff to do with family overwhelms me quite a bit,” he admitted. “Worry or stress around the family side of things—that does overwhelm me.”
Over a pint at a Windsor pub, William spoke about supporting his children through their mother’s illness. “We’re a very open family, so we talk about things that bother us… it’s just important to reassure the children that everything is okay,” he said.
While the interview avoided the subject of Prince Harry, William acknowledged the brothers’ shared experience of growing up under intense media scrutiny. “I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I grew up in. I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress.”
Levy later described the conversation as “surreal,” noting how candid the future king had been.
As the discussion ended, William reflected on resilience and legacy. “Life is sent to test us… and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are. I’m so proud of my wife and my father for how they’ve handled all of last year. My children have managed brilliantly as well.”
The interview marks a rare glimpse into the Prince’s vision for the monarchy, one where tradition is preserved but reimagined for a new era.
