NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto has announced that the government will roll out the second phase of the Nyota Programme’s business support component on Friday, disbursing Sh3 billion to 122,000 beneficiaries across the country.
Speaking after receiving a progress briefing at State House, Nairobi, the President said each beneficiary will receive Sh25,000 during the second disbursement, bringing the total support received under the programme to Sh50,000 after an earlier payment of a similar amount made earlier this year.
“With the launch of the Sh3 billion second tranche of the business support component for the 122,000 beneficiaries, each beneficiary will receive Sh25,000. In addition to a similar amount they had received earlier in the year, each beneficiary will have received a total of Sh50,000,” Ruto said.
Nationwide rollout
According to the President, the second disbursement will be launched simultaneously at 18 venues across the country, bringing together beneficiaries drawn from all 47 counties.
He added that recipients have already completed a business development skills programme designed to strengthen entrepreneurship and improve the sustainability of their enterprises before receiving the second tranche of funding.
“Already, the beneficiaries have undergone a business development skills programme,” Ruto said.
Supporting small businesses
The Nyota Programme is part of the government’s broader economic empowerment agenda aimed at supporting micro and small enterprises through financial assistance and business training.
The business support component combines direct grants with entrepreneurship training to help beneficiaries expand existing businesses or establish new income-generating ventures.
Government officials say the initiative is intended to improve household incomes, promote job creation and strengthen grassroots economic activity by increasing access to capital for small businesses.
