Ruto’s Supporters in Mt Kenya Are Silent- Mwaura

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Isaac Mwaura has claimed that President William Ruto enjoys a large but “silent and underestimated” support base across the Mt Kenya region, arguing that many voters who backed him in 2022 remain loyal despite shifting political narratives in the area.

Mwaura said some political leaders were “in denial” about the President’s influence in the region, insisting that Ruto’s development record and economic interventions had earned him quiet but substantial admiration.

“Some leaders are in denial that President Ruto has many silent admirers and supporters across the Mt Kenya region,” he said. “He has managed to turn around the economy that was on its knees when he took over.”

The remarks come at a time when political analysts have noted fluctuating public enthusiasm in the mountain amid high living costs and declining farmer earnings.

However, Mwaura argued that despite visible frustrations, the President’s core supporters remain intact — only choosing not to express themselves publicly.

According to Mwaura, the votes Azimio received from Mt Kenya in the 2022 General Election would shock many if replicated in 2027, suggesting that the opposition still underestimates the region’s latent backing for the Head of State.

“If Azimio could get the votes that they got in the region in 2022, many people will be surprised at the numbers the President will get in 2027,” he said.

He described the President’s perceived supporters as “silent, many, and scattered across villages,” adding that the true measure of Ruto’s political strength would emerge at the ballot. “They are waiting to show up at the right time. Time will tell,” he said.

For now, Mwaura’s remarks signal the growing debate within Kenya Kwanza about the coalition’s hold on Mt Kenya — a region that remains central to the country’s electoral arithmetic.
