NAIROBI, Kenya – Egypt is set to establish a Centre for Maritime and Logistics in Mombasa, in a move aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation with Kenya and unlocking greater trade potential along the East African coast.
The announcement was made by Egyptian Ambassador to Kenya, Wael Nasr Eldin Attiya, during a high-level meeting with the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), led by Managing Director Capt. William Ruto.
The planned centre will serve as a strategic link for maritime education, logistics management, and regional trade facilitation, further strengthening ties between the two countries.
This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to attracting investment and enhancing connectivity across Eastern Africa.

Ambassador Attiya also expressed Egypt’s interest in partnering on broader port and logistics projects, including the expansion of the Port of Mombasa, the development of the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the Lamu Port, and the country’s inland waterways.
Capt. Ruto welcomed the Egyptian initiative, describing it as a milestone in regional trade cooperation and a testament to Kenya’s rising status as a logistics and maritime powerhouse.
The planned Maritime and Logistics Centre is expected to foster capacity building, knowledge exchange, and technological collaboration between Kenya and Egypt—two countries strategically located at the crossroads of global maritime routes.
The development comes amid growing interest from international partners in Kenya’s coastal infrastructure, as Mombasa and Lamu ports play an increasingly central role in cargo transit across the Horn of Africa, Great Lakes Region, and Central Africa.
With the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) gaining momentum, both governments see enhanced port and logistics cooperation as critical to unlocking cross-border trade and industrial growth.
