NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the continued closure of a key section of Nairobi’s road network until Monday, August 11, 2025, as critical reconstruction works proceed.
The closure affects the Southwestern loop that connects A8 (Waiyaki Way) to the Southern Bypass, near its intersection with the Western Bypass.
The project involves reconstruction of ramps, loops, and slip roads to improve connectivity and traffic flow.
In a statement, KeNHA said the closure is part of a traffic management plan meant to facilitate smooth progress of the works while ensuring motorist safety.
“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the traffic management plan, project road signs, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site,” said Director General Kung’u Ndungu.
Alternative Routes Provided
To ease traffic congestion during the closure period, KeNHA has provided diversions:
- Vehicles from A8 (Waiyaki Way) to the Southern Bypass: Diverted to E1507 Kikuyu-Link Road via the Sigona Golf Club junction.
- Motorists from Nakuru heading to the Southern Bypass: Directed to use the newly constructed Southeastern loop or an alternative temporary diversion along the Southern Bypass median.
- Traffic from the Western Bypass to A8 (Waiyaki Way): Required to use the Muguku Interchange, then proceed through the Kikuyu-Link Road to reconnect to A8 at the Sigona junction.
KeNHA has urged all road users to plan their journeys in advance and remain vigilant around the affected area to avoid delays and confusion.
The roadworks are part of ongoing efforts to decongest Nairobi and improve connectivity between key regional corridors.
