NAIROBI, Kenya- Starlink, the satellite internet giant, is making waves in Kenya by offering a new rental option for its hardware kits.
As part of its mission to bring high-speed internet to underserved regions, Starlink’s latest move could be a game-changer for individuals, businesses, and communities across the country.
With a new rental plan that starts at $15 a month, Starlink is breaking down financial barriers that have kept many Kenyans from accessing reliable internet.
On Wednesday, Starlink unveiled its new rental option, targeting those who find the upfront cost of purchasing the Starlink hardware kit prohibitive.
Initially priced at $687.26 when it launched in Kenya in July, the Starlink kit’s price has since been slashed to $350.
But recognizing that even this reduced price might be out of reach for some, the company now offers a rental alternative.
For $15.15 a month, users can rent the Starlink kit with an additional one-time activation fee of $21.
The rental option also comes with two data plans: a 50GB plan for $10 or an unlimited package for $50.50, both providing speeds of up to 200 Mbps.
These flexible plans ensure that users can choose an option that best suits their needs without the burden of a hefty upfront investment.
Starlink’s move is more than just a pricing strategy; it’s a step toward realizing a broader vision of global connectivity. By making its service more affordable, Starlink is positioning itself as a crucial player in Kenya’s digital transformation.
The satellite-based service is particularly appealing for those in remote or rural areas where traditional internet infrastructure is either lacking or non-existent.
For many Kenyans, this could mean access to educational resources, economic opportunities, and vital information that were previously out of reach.
Starlink’s ability to deliver high-speed internet to the farthest corners of Kenya can significantly impact the country’s socio-economic landscape.
