NAIROBI, Kenya- WhatsApp has made it easier than ever to share your picture-perfect moments.
Last year, the messaging giant introduced the option to send “HD photos,” but users had to manually select this option each time they sent an image.
Now, WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that allows users to set HD photo sending as the default, making high-quality sharing a breeze.
Simplifying HD Media Sharing
Both iOS and Android users can now set HD quality as the default for sending photos and videos on WhatsApp.
This option is easily accessible under the Storage and Data menu in WhatsApp’s settings.
Gone are the days of manually selecting HD for each photo—you can now ensure every snapshot you share retains its high resolution.
In standard mode, photos taken with an iPhone are downgraded to 960×1280 pixels. By switching to HD quality, images maintain their original resolution of 3024×4032 pixels.
While there’s still some compression with the HD setting, it’s significantly less aggressive, preserving more of the image’s detail and clarity.
High-Resolution Video Sharing
This enhancement isn’t limited to photos. Last year, WhatsApp also introduced an option to send videos in higher resolution.
Previously, videos sent via WhatsApp were compressed to a meager 480p. With the HD setting, videos are now sent in 720p resolution.
While it’s not quite the 1080p or 4K that some users might hope for, it’s a noticeable improvement over the standard definition.
The new default quality setting applies to videos as well, ensuring that your moving memories are shared with better clarity.
This update improves the overall media sharing experience on WhatsApp, aligning with the growing user demand for higher quality content.
