NAIROBI, Kenya — The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has opened applications for its party ticket ahead of the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election scheduled for July 16, 2026.
In a statement issued Sunday, National Elections Board Chairperson Wanjiru Kago said the process is open to qualified and interested party members seeking to contest for the parliamentary seat.
“The Democracy for the Citizens Party National Elections Board hereby invites qualified and interested candidates to apply for the party ticket in the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election,” Kago said.
The party has set non-refundable nomination fees at Sh250,000 for general applicants, while youth and persons with disabilities will pay a reduced fee of Sh125,000.
Payments are to be made via Equity Bank paybill number 247247 under the account name of the party.
According to the notice, application forms will be available at the party’s headquarters, and all aspirants must submit duly completed forms alongside supporting documents and proof of payment.
DCP set a strict deadline of Saturday, May 2, for submission of applications, signalling a tight nomination timeline ahead of the July poll.
The Ol Kalou by-election is expected to draw interest from multiple political formations, as parties seek to consolidate influence in Nyandarua County.
By-elections in Kenya often serve as key political barometers, testing party strength and voter sentiment between general elections.
Under the Constitution of Kenya and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) regulations, political parties are required to conduct transparent and competitive nomination processes to ensure credible candidates.
The by-election, slated for mid-July, comes at a time of heightened political activity as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election cycle.
DCP urged interested aspirants to comply fully with application requirements and timelines, warning that late submissions will not be considered.
