Indian Navy Ship Trikand Departs Mombasa

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Indian Navy Ship (INS) Trikand has departed the Port of Mombasa following what officials described as a highly successful Operational Turnaround (OTR), concluding a visit marked by professional military exchanges, community engagement activities, and strengthened maritime cooperation between the Kenya Navy and the Indian Navy.

The vessel’s stay in Mombasa formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen defense and maritime collaboration between the two navies, with a focus on regional security in the Western Indian Ocean.

During the port call, INS Trikand’s crew participated in a series of structured engagements with personnel from the Kenya Navy, focusing on maritime security operations, navigation practices, and shared approaches to safeguarding critical sea lanes.

Officials from both sides emphasized the importance of cooperation in addressing evolving maritime challenges, including piracy risks, illegal fishing, trafficking, and other transnational maritime threats affecting the region.

The exchanges also provided an opportunity for personnel to share operational best practices and strengthen mutual understanding in line with broader defence diplomacy between Kenya and India.

Throughout the visit, joint professional interactions were held between the two navies, including onboard tours, technical briefings, and discussions on maritime surveillance and operational readiness.

Beyond military cooperation, the visit also featured a strong community outreach component. Crew members from INS Trikand took part in social and cultural activities in Mombasa, reinforcing people-to-people ties between India and Kenya.

The Operational Turnaround phase in Mombasa allowed the vessel to undergo routine maintenance, replenishment, and logistical support while simultaneously engaging in diplomatic and training activities.
