NAIROBI, Kenya — Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has condemned an attack on Club Solutions in Sang’alo, where criminal elements killed a security guard and injured others, demanding swift arrests and questioning the security provision near a local police station.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 7, Wanyonyi joined residents in condemning the violence, highlighting its occurrence in close proximity to a police post as particularly concerning.
Proximity Policing Failure
“Such occurrences raise serious concerns about the safety of our people,” Wanyonyi stated, implicitly criticising the effectiveness of nearby law enforcement presence during the incident.
The MP extended condolences to the deceased guard’s family and wished the injured victims a swift recovery. He called on police and security agencies to “move with speed to apprehend those responsible so that they face the full force of the law.”
Security Accountability
Wanyonyi’s intervention reflects legislative oversight obligations under the National Police Service Act, which empowers MPs to raise constituency security concerns with the Inspector General and county security committees.
His demand for “enhanced security in the area” signals pressure on local commanders to demonstrate operational response to violent crime in a commercial zone.
Governance Context
The Sang’alo incident tests Nairobi’s nighttime economy security framework, where entertainment venues frequently operate with minimal state protection despite documented vulnerability to armed criminality.
Wanyonyi’s statement frames community safety as non-negotiable: “Our people deserve to live and work in a safe environment, and we must not allow criminal elements to disrupt peace in our communities.”
The killing of a private security guard—typically the primary protection layer for such establishments—raises questions about armed response protocols and police backup availability for commercial security personnel.
