Nairobi Hosts International Friendship Week for Global Police Delegates

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Nairobi is currently hosting delegates from Australia, Denmark, Estonia, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom as part of the inaugural International Friendship Week, organized by the International Police Association (IPA) Section Kenya in collaboration with the National Police Service.

The event, designed to strengthen international ties among police officers and their families, is part of a broader initiative by IPA to promote camaraderie and professional well-being.

According to Jared Ojuok, Secretary General of IPA Kenya, the gathering provides an opportunity for officers to engage in meaningful exchanges that enhance both personal and professional networks.

“As police officers, we want people to understand the crucial link between managing our circle of friends—both locally and internationally—and our professional and emotional well-being,” Ojuok said.

He emphasized that the event was organized to unite officers from different parts of the world, fostering stronger relationships that can ultimately enhance their social and mental health.

Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, underscored the importance of such international collaborations, noting that IPA, to which the National Police Service of Kenya has been affiliated since 1961, has played a key role in advancing policing ideals in the country.

“IPA has been a trusted partner in sponsoring trainings, participating in community outreach, and supporting officers who are unwell or bereaved,” Kanja said.

He praised the visiting delegates, acknowledging the significant distances many had traveled to participate, and encouraged them to take time to explore Kenya and immerse themselves in the local culture.

“I know that through this experience, you will not only make new friends but also expand your professional networks,” Kanja added.

The International Police Association was founded in England in 1950 by Sergeant Arthur Troop, with the motto “Servo per Amikeco” (Service Through Friendship).

With over 500,000 members across 71 countries, the IPA aims to create bonds of friendship among officers worldwide, exchange professional experiences, and promote international cooperation in upholding law and order.

Beyond its social and professional goals, the IPA also engages in environmental activities, such as tree planting and community clean-ups, while continuing its mission of fostering world peace and mutual understanding among police officers globally.
