NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has paid tribute to the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno during his visit to the constituency on Friday, August 21, 2026.
Gachagua visited Ng’eno’s family home in Mogondo, where he was received by the late lawmaker’s mother before proceeding to the graveside.
The former Deputy President laid a wreath at Ng’eno’s grave in honour of his longtime friend.
Ng’eno’s mother also joined Gachagua in laying a wreath at her son’s grave during the emotional visit.
The visit came after Gachagua had earlier spoken to Ng’eno’s mother and promised to visit the family during his Emurua Dikirr tour.
Gachagua and Ng’eno maintained a close political relationship before the former MP’s death.
Ng’eno died on February 28, 2026, in a helicopter crash in Nandi County alongside other occupants. He was later buried at his Mogondo home in Emurua Dikirr.
During the visit, Ng’eno’s mother asked Gachagua to help construct a mausoleum in memory of her late son.
Gachagua committed to helping build the mausoleum, responding to the request from the late MP’s mother.
The visit marked the first stop in Gachagua’s planned engagements in Emurua Dikirr, where he is also expected to hold a thanksgiving event with supporters.
Gachagua’s visit comes after his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) made a strong showing in the May 2026 Emurua Dikirr by-election.
DCP candidate Vincent Kibet Rotich finished second in the contest, behind United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Kipsang Keter.
The former Deputy President’s visit had attracted political attention ahead of his arrival, with leaders calling for calm and peaceful engagement during his tour.
Gachagua is expected to continue with his programme in Emurua Dikirr after paying his respects to the late MP’s family.
