NAIROBI, Kenya – Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has rejected speculation that he is aligning with President William Ruto’s administration, dismissing a viral video suggesting otherwise as fake.
Kalonzo’s remarks come amid heightened political realignments following former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s recent cooperation deal with Ruto.
The pact has fueled speculation that the president is courting other opposition heavyweights to strengthen his political base ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding to the video on Wednesday, Kalonzo made it clear he would not be part of what he termed a betrayal of Kenyans.
“Why are they so panicky?” he wrote, discrediting the video, which featured footage from his 2024 visit to State House during the unveiling of the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) report.
Why are they so panicky? The People’s Loyal Coalition will NEVER be party to the biggest BETRAYAL of Kenyans for political expediency and temporary comfort. #RutoMustGo
Kalonzo, who has aligned himself with opposition leaders including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, PLP’s Martha Karua, and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, reaffirmed his commitment to challenging the current administration.
On March 7, Kalonzo and Wamalwa openly criticized Raila’s deal with Ruto, describing it as a sellout of Kenyans who had fought against the high cost of living, punitive taxes, and governance failures.
“If there is no formula at KICC today (March 7) showing how Kenyans will be compensated for the lives lost due to police brutality, then nothing will come out of KICC other than betrayal,” Kalonzo stated at the People’s Dialogue Festival at Uhuru Park.
Wamalwa echoed his sentiments, saying opposition leaders who defected to Ruto’s side would be judged harshly by history.
“We chose to stand with Gen Z, with the people of Kenya,” Wamalwa declared. “Those who left the opposition to join Kenya Kwanza—history is a harsh judge; may it judge them accordingly.”
Raila, however, defended his decision, insisting he had not joined Ruto’s government but was engaging with it to tackle critical national issues.
