‘Which Kenyans?’: Uproar Over Poll Advocating Reappointment of Moses Kuria, Kindiki, Others

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Social media erupted in disbelief and criticism following a poll by Politrack Africa that claims a majority of Kenyans support the reappointment of several former Cabinet Secretaries.

According to the poll, a staggering 72.7 percent of respondents want former Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kindiki Kithure reinstated, 64.6 percent favor the return of his Defence counterpart Aden Duale, and significant support exists for ex-Energy CS Davis Chirchir.

Others in the poll include former CSs Kipchumba Murkomen, Moses Kuria, Rebecca Miano, and Soipan Tuya.

The poll asserts that Kenyans overwhelmingly desire Kindiki, Duale, and Chirchir to return to their previous roles.

However, this assertion was met with widespread skepticism and derision online, with the hashtag #WhichKenyans quickly trending.

Many questioned the validity and integrity of the poll, suggesting it was manipulated or influenced by vested interests.

“Which Kenyans? It is so obvious that you have been paid to do this,” @TrulyAnneNdegwa posted on X, echoing the sentiment of many who believe the poll results were fabricated.

Others accused journalists and media outlets of being complicit in a campaign to rehabilitate the reputations of the dismissed Cabinet Secretaries. “Journalists are being paid to sanitize these corrupt and incompetent officials,” wrote another user.

The criticism comes against a backdrop of widespread dissatisfaction with President William Ruto’s inaugural Cabinet, which protesters have labeled as incompetent, corrupt, and arrogant. The discontent was further fueled by the GenZ protests, during which more than 50 people lost their lives, a grim toll that continues to rise.

Kindiki has been particularly controversial, facing accusations of overseeing police brutality during the protests.

His tenure saw a violent crackdown on demonstrators, leading to significant public outcry.

“Which Kenyans want these Cabinet Secretaries back? The President had his reasons for dissolving the entire Cabinet,” @JoshOluga posted on X, reflecting the prevailing sentiment that the President’s decision to dismiss the Cabinet was justified.

Duale also remains a contentious figure. Under his leadership, the military was deployed on the streets of Nairobi following the June 25 breach of Parliament by protesters.

This unprecedented move drew widespread condemnation, further tarnishing his reputation.

The poll’s results appear to clash sharply with the public’s perception, as evidenced by the overwhelming negative reaction on social media.

“The skepticism highlights a broader mistrust in the mechanisms used to gauge public opinion and a call for greater transparency and accountability,” Yasin Ahmed said on X.

In response to the public outcry, questions are now being raised about the credibility of Politrack Africa and the methodologies used in their polling process.

Some social media users have demanded an investigation into how the poll was conducted and whether it was influenced by external factors.

President Ruto has indicated plans to form what many are calling a Government of National Unity, aiming to include new faces from diverse backgrounds.

This move is seen as an attempt to restore public trust and address the pressing issues facing the nation.
