NAIROBI, Kenya- GA Insurance Limited has teamed up with ARC Ride to launch SwapCare, an innovative accident insurance plan designed exclusively for electric motorcycle riders.
Powered by M-TIBA’s advanced health insurance platform, SwapCare offers comprehensive accident coverage that’s seamlessly integrated into ARC Ride’s battery swap service.
This means electric bike operators will automatically be covered each time they swap a battery—ensuring protection is as convenient as their daily ride.
The partnership brings a refreshing twist to traditional insurance, embedding accident coverage into the daily routine of e-bike operators.
“By integrating insurance into everyday activities such as battery swapping, we ensure that protection is both affordable and readily available for electric vehicle operators,” said Vijay Srivastava, Group CEO of GA Insurance.
The initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to promoting economic resilience while also advancing environmental stewardship.
SwapCare will cover hospital bills in the event of an accident and even provide cash compensation for lost income if the rider is hospitalized.
Additionally, in the tragic case of death, the plan will extend to cover funeral expenses. ARC Ride’s CEO, Joseph Hurst-Croft, highlighted that the service is a significant step toward enhancing safety for Kenya’s electric mobility sector.
“We not only enhance safety and peace of mind for our customers but also elevate their overall experience,” Croft noted, positioning ARC Ride as a leader in the growing electric vehicle market.
At the heart of this offering is M-TIBA’s digital platform, which makes insurance coverage accessible and efficient by linking it directly to essential services like battery swaps.
Pieter Prickaerts, CEO and Managing Director of M-TIBA, emphasized that this model drastically reduces administrative hassles, making it easier for underserved markets to access coverage.
“This approach significantly reduces overheads while making insurance more accessible, particularly for those in the informal sector,” Prickaerts explained.
The need for affordable health insurance in Kenya is evident, with only 26pc of the population currently covered, according to the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey.
Initiatives like SwapCare aim to bridge this gap by offering targeted solutions that cater to the needs of low-income and informal workers, such as electric bike operators.
By combining convenience with comprehensive protection, SwapCare is set to revolutionize how e-bike operators navigate their day-to-day lives, offering them both financial security and peace of mind.
