NAIROBI, Kenya – Nominated Senator Crystal Asige has declared her intention to contest the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, joining a growing field of aspirants that includes East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member Winnie Odinga and Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o.
Asige said her legislative record and advocacy for persons with disabilities had prepared her to seek an elective mandate to represent Nairobi residents.
Speaking on Sunday, the nominated senator said she had developed seven Bills aimed at protecting and supporting Kenyans, citing her work on disability rights as a key part of her record.
She highlighted the Persons with Disabilities Act among her legislative initiatives, arguing that her experience in the Senate had equipped her to address challenges affecting residents of Nairobi and the wider country.
“Asige anasija kama Senator wa Nairobi 2027,” she declared, signalling her intention to move from a nominated position to an elected seat.
Asige appealed to voters to give her an opportunity to continue serving, saying her vision extended beyond Nairobi to address the needs of families and the country.
Her announcement adds another contender to the increasingly competitive race for the Nairobi Senate seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

Winnie Odinga Enters Race As Sifuna Eyes Higher Office
Winnie Odinga declared her intention to contest the seat on October 15 at Migwena Cultural Grounds during an event commemorating the first anniversary of her father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s death.
The EALA legislator said she saw an opportunity to enter the race as incumbent Senator Edwin Sifuna pursued ambitions for higher office.
“Let it not be a rumour that as Edwin Sifuna searches for higher offices, I see there is some space in Nairobi, and that is why I have decided I will vie for Senator of Nairobi County,” Winnie said.
Her declaration has added a new dimension to the Nairobi contest, with several political figures now signalling their interest in the seat.

Jalang’o Vows To Stay In The Race
Lang’ata MP Jalang’o has also maintained his interest in the Nairobi senatorial seat, saying Winnie’s entry would make the contest more competitive.
Reacting to her announcement, the legislator welcomed the prospect of a tougher race and insisted he would not withdraw his bid.
“Winnie’s entry into the race makes it even more exciting, competitive and serious because the other people who announced their bid were not as serious,” he said.
Jalang’o’s declaration places him among the prominent political figures seeking to represent Nairobi in the Senate, setting the stage for a contest involving candidates with different political backgrounds and public profiles.

KRG The Don Also Eyes Nairobi Senate Seat
Musician and businessman KRG The Don has also expressed interest in the Nairobi senatorial seat.
He has indicated that he intends to contest on the National Economic Development Party ticket associated with former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
With Asige, Winnie Odinga, Jalang’o and KRG The Don expressing interest, the race is shaping up as a contest to watch ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The field could evolve further as more aspirants declare their intentions and political parties begin positioning themselves for the Nairobi contest.
