Doctor Shot Dead While Awaiting Uber in Nairobi’s Upper Hill Area

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into the fatal shooting of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, who was shot dead on Tuesday morning in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.

In a statement issued on July 29, the DCI said homicide detectives from its headquarters, supported by forensic experts, had taken over the investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.

The agency expressed its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, pledging to conduct a thorough, impartial and professional investigation.

“The DCI conveys its deepest condolences to the family, relatives and loved ones of the deceased during this profoundly difficult time. We stand in solidarity with them in their grief and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to conducting a thorough, impartial and professional investigation,” the statement read.

According to preliminary findings, Dr. Mutiso had requested an Uber ride for transport when she sustained fatal gunshot injuries under circumstances that investigators say remain unclear.

Police officers, accompanied by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives, responded immediately after receiving the report, securing and processing the scene.

Investigators recovered and documented forensic evidence for analysis and interviewed witnesses as part of the ongoing probe. Detectives also visited the medical facility where the victim had been taken following the shooting.

The DCI said homicide detectives are pursuing all critical leads, including following up on persons of investigative interest, as they seek to reconstruct the events leading to the fatal shooting.

Authorities cautioned members of the public against spreading speculation or unverified information, warning that doing so could interfere with ongoing investigations.

The DCI appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station or anonymously through the #FichuaKwaDCI platform by calling the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or sending a WhatsApp message to 0709 570 000.

The agency said it will continue updating the public on significant developments as the investigation progresses and when it is operationally appropriate to do so.
