ELDORET, Kenya – Detectives have raided a suspected criminal gang hideout in Huruma, Eldoret, recovering military-style clothing, burglary tools and other items believed to have been used in a series of robberies.

The Tuesday night operation comes just two days after four suspected gang members were shot dead during a confrontation with police in Uasin Gishu County.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from the Soy DCI office acted on intelligence and stormed a house in the Sungura area of Huruma, where they established the premises had been serving as an operational base for the suspected gang.

During the raid, officers recovered five Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) jungle jackets, a heavy wedge hammer, a crowbar, two mobile phones and several other assorted items believed to have been used in criminal activities.

Police suspect the recovered tools were used to facilitate robberies in Eldoret and its surrounding areas as investigations continue to establish the full extent of the gang’s operations.

The DCI said detectives are pursuing other suspects believed to have escaped and are working to dismantle the wider criminal network.

The raid follows a deadly police operation on Monday at Greenfield Junction along the Eldoret-Kiplombe Road, where four suspected gang members were fatally shot after allegedly opening fire on officers during an attempted arrest.

Police said the suspects engaged officers in a gunfight before they were overpowered. Investigations into the group’s activities remain ongoing.

Authorities have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could help security agencies track down the remaining suspects and curb criminal activities in the region.
