Kenya Power Employee, Accomplice Arrested Over Sh30,000 Bribery Allegations

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a Kenya Power employee and an alleged accomplice over claims of soliciting and receiving a Sh30,000 bribe from a resident seeking to have electricity reconnected to a residential property.

According to the anti-graft agency, the arrests followed a complaint lodged on May 28, 2026, by a resident whose electricity supply had been disconnected two days earlier.

EACC said preliminary investigations established that Gerald Nyaoke, a technician attached to the Kenya Power Donholm Office, allegedly demanded Sh30,000 from the complainant in exchange for restoring power to the property.

The Commission launched an operation after receiving the complaint, with detectives closely monitoring and documenting interactions between the complainant and the suspects.

The operation culminated in the arrest of Nyaoke and his alleged accomplice immediately after the suspected bribe transaction.

“The arrest followed a complaint lodged with the Commission on 28th May 2026 by a resident whose electricity had been disconnected two days earlier,” EACC said in a statement.

The suspects were escorted to the Integrity Centre in Nairobi, where they are undergoing processing as investigations continue.

The anti-corruption agency said the case forms part of its ongoing efforts to curb bribery and abuse of office in public institutions.

EACC has urged members of the public to continue reporting corruption-related incidents, noting that public cooperation remains critical in the fight against graft.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to holding public officers accountable who misuse their positions for personal gain and pledged to pursue all reported cases to their logical conclusion.

If charged and convicted, the suspects could face penalties under Kenya’s anti-corruption and economic crimes laws.

The arrests come amid renewed efforts by anti-graft agencies to tackle petty corruption affecting the delivery of essential public services across the country.
