NAIROBI, Kenya- The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has conducted a search operation at a hotel in Embu County as part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and economic crimes at the National Youth Service (NYS).
The operation, carried out on Friday, April 17, targeted David Mbogo Muthee, the Head of Procurement at the NYS Training School in Gilgil, and his associate Naftali Kiperu.
According to the Commission, detectives executed the search at Mavvel Hotel after obtaining court orders, in a move aimed at gathering evidence linked to suspected procurement irregularities.
Probe into Sh2 billion dealings
EACC said the investigations centre on allegations of conflict of interest and abuse of office involving several senior NYS officials.
The suspects are believed to have traded with the agency through various companies, raising concerns over integrity in procurement processes.
Preliminary findings indicate that the alleged dealings resulted in payments amounting to approximately KSh2 billion between the 2019/2020 and 2024/2025 financial years.
Evidence recovered
The anti-graft agency confirmed that the operation yielded “valuable evidentiary material” expected to support the ongoing probe.
Officials did not disclose the exact nature of the items recovered but maintained that the search forms part of a broader effort to dismantle corruption networks within public institutions.
EACC noted that upon completion of investigations, appropriate action will be taken against any individuals found culpable.
This could include criminal prosecution, recovery of unexplained wealth, and seizure of proceeds linked to corruption.
The latest development underscores renewed scrutiny of the NYS, an institution that has in the past faced multiple corruption scandals tied to procurement and misuse of public funds.
