NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has arrived in the United Kingdom for a series of political and diaspora engagements as he intensifies efforts to strengthen his influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua’s arrival was received by close allies, including Nyandarua Senator John Methu and political commentator Fanya Mambo Kinuthia, who had earlier camped at Heathrow Airport ahead of his landing.
The former deputy president is expected to attend the Murima UK Festival and hold meetings with Kenyan diaspora groups in London as part of a wider outreach strategy targeting Kenyans living abroad.
His UK visit comes at a politically charged moment back home, where he has remained vocal against President William Ruto’s administration over the high cost of living, fuel prices and the controversial government-to-government fuel deal.
Sources close to Gachagua’s camp say the UK tour is also aimed at consolidating support for his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) while building financial and political networks within the diaspora ahead of the 2027 race.
The former DP has increasingly turned to international engagements and diaspora mobilisation following his impeachment in 2024, with allies describing the overseas meetings as part of a broader strategy to reposition him as a key opposition figure.
Gachagua is expected to hold town hall meetings and private sessions with business leaders and Kenyan professionals during the visit.
