NAROK, Kenya- Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua is in Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Narok County, where he is holding a thanksgiving tour following the party’s performance in the May 2026 parliamentary by-election.
Gachagua began his visit by paying a condolence call to the family of the late Johana Ng’eno, the former Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament who died in a helicopter crash in Nandi County on February 28, 2026.
Ng’eno represented Emurua Dikirr in Parliament before his death. His passing triggered a parliamentary by-election in the constituency, which was won by UDA candidate David Kipsang Keter.
DCP candidate Vincent Kibet Rotich finished second with 10,760 votes, according to reports on the contest.
Gachagua had earlier indicated that he would visit Ng’eno’s family during his Emurua Dikirr tour.
Speaking during a meeting with a Wiper Party delegation earlier this month, Gachagua said he intended to speak to Ng’eno’s mother about what he believed led to her son’s death.
After the condolence visit, Gachagua proceeded with a thanksgiving event bringing together DCP supporters and political allies in the constituency.
The visit comes after DCP made significant gains in the May 14 by-election, with Rotich emerging as the runner-up behind Keter. The party has presented the result as an indication of growing support in the South Rift.
Gachagua’s arrival follows days of heightened political activity around his planned visit.
On Thursday, he wrote to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja seeking security assurances for himself, his entourage and supporters during the Emurua Dikirr tour.
Emurua Dikirr MP David Kipsang Keter, who had earlier expressed reservations about the visit, subsequently welcomed Gachagua and called for peace.
Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek also welcomed the DCP leader and urged his supporters to maintain peace.
Gachagua is expected to continue with his engagements in Emurua Dikirr as he seeks to strengthen DCP’s presence in the region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
