NAIROBI, Kenya- Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of being behind the long-running land disputes in Kedong and Kibiko, claiming members of the Maasai community have been unfairly displaced from their ancestral land.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders from Narok County and the Maa community at his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua alleged that the President was linked to the controversial land rows and urged residents to remain united as they pursue a solution.
“The Maasai have been displaced from their land,” Gachagua said, alleging that the ongoing disputes in Kedong and Kibiko were politically driven.
The former Deputy President further called on the Maa community to stand firm, expressing confidence that President Ruto would leave office after the 2027 General Election.
“Stand firm. Ruto will leave office next year,” Gachagua told the gathering, referring to the scheduled elections.
Gachagua has in recent months stepped up criticism of the Head of State, using his political consultations at Wamunyoro to rally support for the opposition’s campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
He has repeatedly accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of land injustices and poor governance while positioning the opposition as an alternative government.
The President has previously rejected accusations by opposition leaders regarding his administration’s handling of land matters, maintaining that his government is committed to resolving historical land injustices through lawful processes.
During a recent tour of the Coast region, Ruto pledged to address longstanding land disputes and accelerate the issuance of title deeds.
