Hiked Museum Entry Fees Take Effect

NAIROBI, Kenya – The National Museums of Kenya has revised admission charges for museums, monuments and heritage sites across the country, with the new rates taking effect from May 7, 2026.

In a notice published in the MyGov publication under the National Museums and Heritage (Admissions Fees) Regulations, 2025, the institution announced the implementation of the updated fees.

“Notice is hereby given to the general public that pursuant to Legal Notice No. 79 of 2025 National Museums and Heritage (Admissions Fees) Regulations, 2025, National Museums of Kenya will be implementing its revised heritage facilities admission fees with effect from 7th May, 2026,” the notice stated.

Under the new rates, Kenyan and East African adult citizens visiting the Nairobi National Museum or Snake Park will pay Sh350, while children will pay Sh200. Combined tickets will cost Sh600 for adults and Sh300 for children.

Visitors from the rest of Africa will pay Sh1,170 for adults and Sh780 for children, while non-African visitors will be charged Sh2,341 for adults and Sh1,170 for children.

Previously, Kenyan adults paid Sh300 and children Sh150, while non-residents paid Sh1,200 for adults and Sh600 for children.

The revised charges also affect the Karen Blixen Museum in Nairobi and Fort Jesus in Mombasa. Kenyan and East African adults visiting the two sites will pay Sh550, while children will pay Sh300.

Combined tickets for Fort Jesus Museum and the Butterfly House will cost Sh650 for adults and Sh400 for children.

Meanwhile, coastal heritage sites in Lamu County, including Lamu Fort, Lamu Museum, the Swahili House Museum and the German Post Office, will retain their previous charges of Sh200 for adults and Sh100 for children.

Tambach, Kakapel, Pate, Nyeri, Shimoni, Songhor, Fort Ternan and Siyu Fort will have the lowest rates under the new pricing structure, with adults paying Sh100 and children Sh50.
