Homa Bay Tourist Hotel Attacked by Youths in ODM Attire Ahead of Sifuna’s Rally

NAIROBI, Kenya- Police in Homa Bay are investigating an attack and looting incident at a tourist hotel in the Homa Bay Pier Lake area, where a group of youths raided the facility and destroyed property.

According to a police incident report seen by Y News, the attack occurred at around 8 pm on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Homa Bay Tourist Hotel, approximately two kilometres west of Homa Bay Police Station.

The incident was reported by the hotel’s manager, identified as Robert Odongo, who told police that a group of youths wearing ODM-branded clothing invaded the premises.

The youths smashed and destroyed hotel property before stealing various items from the facility.

Police respond to hotel attack

Police officers, accompanied by personnel from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) teams, rushed to the hotel after receiving the report.

However, by the time officers arrived, the youths had reportedly fled the scene on motorcycles.

Officers gained access to the hotel and found furniture, stationery, accessories and other property destroyed or missing.

The value of the stolen and damaged items had not been established by the time of reporting.

Police documented the scene as part of ongoing investigations.

Investigation launched

The case has been taken up by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) in Homa Bay.

Police said investigations are ongoing and the case remains under inquiry as officers work to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The incident was recorded under Occurrence Book entry 49/15/08/2026 at 10:15 pm.

Police have not indicated whether the youths were acting on behalf of the ODM party or whether the incident was connected to any official party activity.

No arrests had been reported by the time of publication.

The investigation comes amid heightened political activity across the country ahead of the 2027 General Election, raising concerns over the involvement of political groups in incidents of violence and property destruction.

The incident happened ahead of the Linda Mwananchi rally.

A local politician was seen instructing youth to raid hotels where Linda Mwananchi politicians will be staying.
