NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto has congratulated Kenyan skater Kelvin Kiarie following his gold medal victory at the African Skating Championship in Cairo, Egypt.
In a statement, the President described Kiarie’s triumph as a proud moment for both the athlete and the country, praising his determination and rising profile on the continental stage.
“You have conquered the continent and your journey is an inspiration to many aspiring sportsmen and women in Kenya and Africa,” Ruto said.
Rising star on the continent
Kiarie’s latest victory adds to a growing list of achievements that have placed him among Kenya’s emerging talents in roller freestyle skating.
The young athlete had recently competed internationally, including at the African Skating Championship in Cairo, where he represented Kenya in multiple categories.
Earlier in April, he also made headlines after winning gold and silver medals at the International Skating Challenge in Benin, competing with limited support.
Inspiration to young athletes
President Ruto expressed confidence that Kiarie’s “talent, drive and competitive spirit” would propel him to greater success on the global stage.
He noted that the skater’s journey — often marked by personal sacrifice and resilience — continues to inspire many young athletes across Kenya and the continent.
Kiarie’s success has drawn increasing national attention, with many Kenyans celebrating his achievements and calling for greater support for non-traditional sports.
His rise highlights the potential of emerging disciplines in Kenya’s sporting landscape, traditionally dominated by athletics.
