Kenya Power Warns Customers After X Account Is Hacked

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Power has warned customers against engaging with its customer care account on X after it was accessed without authorisation.

In a customer alert issued on Saturday, October 3, the power utility said the @KenyaPower_Care account had experienced unauthorised access and that efforts to recover it were underway.

The company urged customers and members of the public not to interact with content posted on the account until further notice.

“Please DO NOT respond to any messages sent or take instructions issued through the account until further notice,” Kenya Power said.

Customers Told To Use Official Channels

Kenya Power advised customers seeking assistance to use its other official communication channels while the recovery process continues.

Customers can access services through its official X account, @KenyaPower, as well as its Facebook, Instagram and TikTok platforms.

The utility also directed customers to use the myPower App and the *977# USSD service for assistance.

Kenya Power said it would issue an update once the affected account had been recovered and the matter resolved.

The warning comes as social media account takeovers can expose users to fraudulent messages, malicious links or attempts to obtain personal and financial information.

The utility urged customers to remain vigilant and avoid following instructions issued through the compromised account until further notice.
