LANGOBAYA, Kilifi County — The National Police Service has intensified community policing efforts in Kilifi County following a public engagement forum held at Kararacha Grounds in Matolani Sub-Location aimed at strengthening peaceful coexistence and addressing emerging security challenges.
The forum, chaired by Assistant County Commissioner for Langobaya Division Brian Kirui, brought together senior security officers, local administrators, and community stakeholders, including chiefs, assistant chiefs, peace committee members, youth representatives, religious leaders, and business community actors.
Among the officers present were Langobaya Officer Commanding Station CI Edgar Mwazera and OC GSU Galana Kulalu Camp IP Hussein Ibrahim, reflecting a coordinated multi-agency approach to local security concerns.
Discussions focused on a range of issues affecting the area, with stock theft emerging as a key concern alongside farm invasions, livestock migration in search of pasture, and fraudulent land transactions.
Community members also raised concerns about child labour, environmental degradation linked to charcoal burning, and retaliatory attacks that continue to strain relations between neighbouring groups.
Security officers emphasized the importance of timely reporting of incidents and stronger cooperation between residents and law enforcement agencies. They noted that effective information sharing remains central to preventing crime and improving response times in rural and semi-rural areas.
The forum also addressed broader governance and social cohesion issues, including the formation and strengthening of community policing committees. Authorities said such structures are critical in bridging trust gaps between police and residents while fostering collective responsibility for security.

Participants were encouraged to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence as essential tools for preventing conflict. Leaders present underscored that security challenges in the region often intersect with resource competition, land use pressures, and seasonal livestock movements.
The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to sustained community engagement, noting that regular forums are part of a broader strategy to build safer and more secure communities through collaboration rather than enforcement alone.
Officials said the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to shift policing towards a more participatory model, where residents play an active role in identifying risks and supporting preventive action.
As engagement efforts continue, authorities are expected to expand similar forums to other parts of Kilifi County and beyond, targeting areas facing comparable security and socio-economic challenges.
