KUCCPS Reopens Application Portal for University and TVET Students

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya— Thousands of students who feared they had missed the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) deadline have received an unexpected second chance after the placement agency quietly extended its application portal beyond the official May 22 closure date.

A spot check on the KUCCPS portal shows that the placement body kept both the university and TVET application windows open despite previously announcing that the second revision exercise would end on May 22.

The move now gives students extra days to revise their courses, make fresh applications or correct previous choices ahead of the September intake.

New KUCCPS deadlines revealed

Initially, KUCCPS had announced that the second revision window would run from May 16 to May 22.

The exercise targeted students who failed to secure placement during the first application phase, as well as those who had not applied earlier for various reasons.

However, the portal remained active even after the deadline lapsed.

According to the updated timelines displayed on the system, university applicants now have until Monday, June 1 to submit or revise their applications.

Students applying for placement in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions have until Monday, June 8 before the portal officially closes.

The extension is likely to come as relief to students who experienced technical difficulties, missed the earlier deadline or were still reconsidering their course choices.

What students should do next

Students seeking placement are being advised to log into the official KUCCPS student portal to review, revise or submit their programme selections before the new deadlines expire.

The placement process is particularly important for students targeting university admission under the government-sponsored programme and those applying for diploma and certificate courses in TVET institutions.

KUCCPS is expected to release placement results from July, when applicants will know the institutions and courses they have been assigned.

For students dissatisfied with the placements they receive, KUCCPS will later open an inter-institution and inter-course transfer process under separate guidelines.

That process typically allows students to request transfers to different universities, colleges or academic programmes after placement results are announced.

Why the extension matters

The quiet extension reflects the high pressure surrounding university and college placement in Kenya, where thousands of students compete for limited slots in degree and diploma programmes every year.

It also highlights ongoing concerns around access to application systems, awareness of deadlines and last-minute course revisions by students seeking better career alignment.

For many learners, especially those awaiting government-sponsored placement opportunities, missing a KUCCPS deadline can significantly affect education plans for the academic year.

The additional days may therefore provide a critical opportunity for students still trying to secure placement before the September intake begins.
