NAIROBI, Kenya- Embakasi West MP Mark Muriithi Mwenje has signaled his intention to leave the Jubilee Party and seek re-election on the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, according to party leader Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement issued after hosting the legislator at his Wamunyoro residence on Friday, Gachagua said Mwenje informed him that his supporters had resolved that he should defend his parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election under the DCP banner.

“Later in the day I received Hon. Mark Muriithi Mwenje, the MP for Embakasi West, at Wamunyoro residence. Hon. Mwenje informed me that he had been instructed by his supporters to defend his seat next year under the DCP party ticket,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President added that he congratulated Mwenje “for listening to the ground and aligning with the wishes of his supporters.”

If formalised, the move would see Mwenje abandon the Jubilee Party, under which he was elected MP for Embakasi West.

The legislator has in recent months been associated with the opposition outfit led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, but his meeting with Gachagua signals a shift toward the DCP as political realignments gather pace ahead of the 2027 elections.

The announcement comes as Gachagua continues to court elected leaders from across the country in a bid to strengthen DCP’s presence ahead of the next General Election.

DCP has been positioning itself as a key opposition party and has recently intensified recruitment of aspirants and elected leaders seeking its ticket for the 2027 polls.
