NAIROBI, Kenya- Political activist Morara Kebaso has announced that he has shelved his own political outfit, the INJECT Party, and joined the Jubilee Party as he prepares to contest the Borabu parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
Kebaso made the announcement during an interview on Monday night, saying political realities in Nyamira County and the larger Gusii region had informed his decision to abandon his party, the Injection of National Justice, Economic and Civic Transformation (INJECT), in favour of Jubilee.
“INJECT Party itakaa kwa kabati. Kwa saa hizi tunafanya kazi na chama cha Dr Fred Matiang’i, Jubilee Party. Yes, I have joined the Jubilee Party; we have to go with the realities of the politics of the day,” Kebaso said.
He confirmed that he will seek the Borabu parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket, arguing that Jubilee remains the dominant political vehicle in the Gusii region.
“Pale Borabu ama Nyamira County ama Gusii region huwezi kutaja kitu ingine. Lazima ikuwe Jubilee,” he said, adding that voters in the region are more receptive to the Jubilee brand than a relatively new political party.
The move marks a dramatic shift for Kebaso, who rose to national prominence during the 2024 Gen Z protests before launching the INJECT Party as a youth-led political movement focused on governance reforms, accountability and economic transformation.
He had previously promised to field candidates across the country and positioned the party as an alternative to Kenya’s established political formations.
In April 2025, Kebaso announced that aspiring candidates seeking elective office through INJECT would receive free party tickets in an effort to encourage greater youth participation in politics.
Earlier this year, he also aligned the party with the opposition, saying its mission was to provide solutions rather than merely criticise the government.
His latest announcement leaves the future of INJECT uncertain, with Kebaso indicating that the party will effectively take a back seat as he pursues elective politics under Jubilee.
The decision also strengthens Jubilee’s presence in the Gusii region ahead of the 2027 General Election, where the party has rallied behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as its presidential flagbearer.
