NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has announced plans for the construction of a key road in Ol Kalou, saying the project will be gazetted next week, even as he actively campaigns for the ruling party in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking during a public rally in Ngorika, within Ol Kalou constituency, Kuria told residents that more development pledges would follow in the coming days.
“I will be coming here every day with a new thing,” he said, signalling an aggressive push to rally support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate ahead of party primaries.
UDA will be facing immense opposition from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP.
The delegation made a stop at Ngorika Vocational Training Centre, where they addressed residents and drummed up support for UDA ahead of the mini-poll.
Kuria’s latest pledge mirrors a similar strategy previously deployed in Mbeere North, where development promises featured prominently during campaigns and preceded a UDA victory in a by-election.
The move, however, is likely to reignite debate over the role of state-linked projects during election periods, particularly when senior government officials appear at campaign events while announcing infrastructure plans.
Critics have in the past questioned whether such pledges blur the line between government development agendas and political campaigning, while supporters argue that accelerated development is part of responsive leadership.
With the Ol Kalou by-election approaching, Kuria’s remarks signal an intensifying political contest, with infrastructure promises once again emerging as a central campaign tool.
Kuria, who formerly served as a senior economic advisor in government, toured the area alongside top officials, including Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, Roads Principal Secretary Joseph Mbugua, and Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau.
