NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto has announced a raft of infrastructure commitments at Njiiri School in Murang’a County, pledging at least Sh170 million in direct government funding as part of a broader push to expand and modernise learning facilities across the country.
During a visit to the institution, recently elevated to national school status, the president committed to financing the construction of 30 new classrooms and six laboratories to cater for a growing student population.
In addition, the Ministry of Education will fund the construction of a new administration block at a cost of Sh70 million, while the State Department of Housing is set to build a modern dormitory expected to accommodate up to 1,000 learners at a cost of Sh100 million.
The combined cost of the administration block and dormitory alone stands at Sh170 million, with additional investments expected for classrooms, laboratories, and internal road infrastructure.
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority will also step in to tarmac pathways within the school, a move aimed at improving accessibility for both students and staff.
Ruto said the projects are part of a nationwide effort to improve education standards by ensuring students learn in dignified and conducive environments.
“By expanding and modernising the learning environment, we are giving every learner a fair opportunity to grow and realise their full potential,” he said.
The announcement adds to a growing list of presidential pledges targeting the education sector, as the government seeks to align infrastructure with increased enrolment following school upgrades and policy reforms.
However, such commitments often attract scrutiny over implementation timelines and budgetary prioritisation, especially amid competing national demands and concerns about public spending.
