KIRIANI, Kenya – Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has told President William Ruto to exercise caution in his political conduct, describing him as a “retired president in waiting” as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has issued a pointed political message to President William Ruto, telling him that he should remember he is also a “retired president in waiting”.
Speaking in Kiriaini on Sunday, August 23, 2026, Nyoro said political leaders should be conscious of how they conduct themselves as Kenya approaches the 2027 General Election.
“And I also want to tell him, President William Ruto, you are a retired president in waiting,” Nyoro said.
The remark adds to increasingly sharp exchanges among political leaders as parties and political formations intensify their mobilisation ahead of next year’s election.
Nyoro breaks silence on 2027 politics
Nyoro said he had deliberately remained quiet while observing the country’s political developments but suggested that he had now decided to speak more openly.
“Ndindi Nyoro amekuwa amenyamaza… akipanga maneno ya vile tutafanyia Wakenya next year,” he said.
The Kiharu MP urged politicians to focus on the interests of Kenyans rather than political manoeuvring.
His remarks come as political realignments gather pace, with leaders across the political divide positioning themselves for the 2027 contest.
Nyoro recently left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK), while also declaring his intention to pursue the presidency in 2027.
Nyoro warns against attacks on Uhuru
Nyoro also declared that he would no longer tolerate what he described as insults directed at former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Hiyo mambo ya kutukana Uhuru Kenyatta… I want to announce today, hiyo imeisha leo,” he said.
The statement comes amid an increasingly heated political debate involving Ruto, Uhuru and opposition leaders.
Ruto and his allies have repeatedly accused the former President of supporting opposition forces seeking to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration in 2027.
Uhuru has denied having political ambitions or sponsoring opposition candidates, saying Kenyans should be free to choose their preferred leaders.
Ruto says his record will determine 2027
Nyoro’s remarks came days after Ruto defended his administration’s record and challenged his political opponents to focus on what they would offer voters.
Speaking in Eldoret on August 13, the President said leaders should be judged by their performance rather than political slogans.
“Kila kiongozi anapimwa na kazi amefanya,” Ruto said, while dismissing calls for his administration to serve only one term.
The President has increasingly framed the 2027 election as a contest over his government’s development record, pointing to projects such as affordable housing and infrastructure.
Ruto has also said his administration intends to sustain construction activity and create employment opportunities through major development programmes.
“Nyinyi vijana, hii kazi ya Affordable Housing mkimaliza, niko na kazi ingine,” he told young people involved in the affordable housing programme.
