Muhoho Kenyatta Pays Emotional Tribute to Cyrus Jirongo: “A Man Larger Than Life”

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Muhoho Kenyatta, the younger brother of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has delivered an emotional tribute to the late Cyrus Jirongo, describing him as a man “full of energy, full of life” whose death was difficult to comprehend.

Speaking during a memorial service, Muhoho recounted the moment he learned of Jirongo’s passing, revealing that he was outside the country when the news reached him.

“I don’t know where to start when I talk about Cyrus,” Muhoho said.

“When I got the news, I was out of the country and received a message on my telephone. I actually had to sit back for a while to sort of take it in.”

Struggling to believe the reports, Muhoho said his first instinct was to verify the information with his close friend, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

“I picked up the phone and called my brother Gideon Moi to enquire whether this was real or just fake news, which is normally spread around. When Gideon confirmed to me that this was actually the case, I could not believe it,” he said.

Muhoho described Jirongo as a vibrant, energetic figure whose absence felt “unfathomable.”

“Cyrus was a person who was full of energy. Full of life. Just the thought of him not being with us was unfathomable,” he noted.

He also addressed what he described as widespread misunderstanding of the former Cabinet minister and businessman, insisting that beneath the public persona was a man of deep thought and insight.

“Today, we celebrate a man who was larger than life in many ways. A man misunderstood by some – or many,” Muhoho said. “But he was larger than life.”

Recalling their private conversations, Muhoho said the late Jirongo possessed remarkable intellectual depth.

“We would actually meet, just the two of us, to deliberate on many issues. And you would find the depth in the things we discussed. There was a lot of depth in Cyrus.”

He concluded his tribute with a heartfelt farewell, praying for peace as Jirongo embarks on what he described as a new journey.

“As you go, my brother, go in peace,” Muhoho said. “As you prepare that place in the next world for all of us.”

Cyrus Jirongo, a towering figure in Kenya’s political and business circles, is remembered as a charismatic leader whose influence spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him personally and publicly.
