MOMBASA, Kenya – Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday launched a six-day tour of the Coast region, beginning in Mombasa, as part of a nationwide initiative to assess security and service delivery across all counties.

Dubbed Jukwaa la Usalama, the series of town hall meetings is aimed at gathering public feedback and fostering dialogue between government officials and local communities.

The Mombasa meeting marked the first stop in the Coast tour, which will cover six counties in the region before expanding countrywide.

“The town halls are open, candid and interactive to help us get an accurate picture of the state of service delivery and the challenges facing our teams on the ground,” Murkomen said.

The forum brought together elected leaders, ministry officials, national government administrators, security personnel, civil society representatives, youth leaders, and members of the business community.

Discussions ranged from security and community policing to land disputes, drug abuse, tourism, and the welfare of government officers.

Before the public forum, Murkomen held a closed-door session with regional security chiefs to receive updates on the security situation in the region.

He said insights gathered from the nationwide forums would be compiled into a report to inform policy decisions and improve service delivery.

Among those present were Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki, MPs Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe), Badi Twalib (Jomvu), Machele Mohamed (Mvita), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), and Nominated Senator Miraj Abdillahi Abdulrahman.

Also in attendance were Internal Security Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, Immigration PS Dr. Belio Kipsang, Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha, Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno, and several MCAs and senior officials from the Interior Ministry.

The Mombasa event sets the tone for what the Interior Ministry says will be an inclusive national dialogue to enhance public safety, improve inter-agency coordination, and respond to citizens’ concerns more effectively.
