NAKURU, Kenya- Police have arrested one suspect after uncovering a suspected cannabis plantation concealed within a maize farm in Moi Ndabi Village, Kongoni Location, Nakuru County.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Kongoni Police Station made the discovery during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected illegal activities in the area.
According to the police, officers found approximately half an acre of land under cultivation with what is believed to be cannabis sativa (bhang).
The suspected narcotic crop had allegedly been interplanted with maize in what investigators believe was a deliberate attempt to conceal the plantation from detection.
Intelligence-Led Operation
The National Police Service said the operation was carried out after officers received intelligence indicating the existence of the illegal cultivation site.
Upon searching the farm, officers reportedly discovered the suspected cannabis growing among mature maize crops, making it resemble an ordinary agricultural field.
Police said one suspect was arrested during the operation and is currently being held in custody pending arraignment.
The identity of the suspect was not immediately disclosed.
Police Warn Against Drug Cultivation
The National Police Service said criminals continue to adopt increasingly sophisticated methods to conceal illegal activities but maintained that intelligence-led operations remain central to efforts to combat crime.
The agency said it will continue conducting proactive operations in partnership with local communities to detect and disrupt criminal activities across the country.
Investigations into the suspected cannabis cultivation are ongoing.
