NAIROBI, Kenya — ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga has condemned the physical attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, describing the incident as unacceptable and calling for swift investigations.
In a statement, the senior Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader said violence has no place in democratic engagement and urged political actors to resolve differences through dialogue rather than confrontation.
“It is with a heavy heart and profound concern that I have received news of the physical attack on the Senator of Vihiga County… Violence has no place in our political discourse,” Oburu said.
He wished Osotsi a speedy recovery and emphasised that political disagreements should never lead to intimidation or physical confrontation.
The ODM leader reiterated the party’s commitment to democratic principles, the rule of law, and peaceful political competition. He warned that acts of aggression undermine democratic gains and threaten national stability.
“As a party, ODM remains committed to the pillars of democracy, the rule of law, and the respectful exchange of ideas. We do not support, condone, or tolerate violence in any form,” he said.
Oburu also urged security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
“I strongly condemn this cowardly act and call upon the relevant security agencies to conduct a swift, thorough, and impartial investigation. The perpetrators must be held accountable to the full extent of the law,” he said.
He called on leaders and citizens to uphold peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, warning against actions that could inflame political tensions.
The circumstances surrounding the attack on Osotsi were not immediately clear, but the incident has sparked concern among political leaders over rising tensions and the safety of elected officials.
