NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto has said the ongoing redevelopment of Bomas of Kenya will include a shopping mall as part of the wider Bomas International Convention Complex project.
The development will also feature three hotels, an amphitheatre and conference facilities designed to host up to 11,000 delegates across 35 halls and meeting rooms.
Ruto said the main conference hall will have a capacity of 3,000 participants, positioning the facility as one of the largest convention centres in East and Central Africa.
The project is part of the government’s plan to transform Bomas of Kenya from a mainly cultural and entertainment venue into a major meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions hub.
Bomas of Kenya, located in Lang’ata, Nairobi, was established in 1971 to preserve and promote Kenya’s cultural heritage through traditional homesteads, music and dance performances.
The government has said the new convention complex is intended to strengthen Kenya’s position in conference tourism and attract more international events.
Work on the project began in 2025 after Cabinet approved the redevelopment plan. The facility is being developed as a modern conference and hospitality complex within the Bomas of Kenya grounds.
The commercial components, including the shopping mall and hotels, are expected to support conference activities and increase demand for Bomas facilities.
