Ruto Promises Sh4 Billion Road, New Schools in Laikipia Tour

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto has unveiled a series of infrastructure and development projects in Laikipia County, saying the government is committed to ensuring equitable growth across all regions of the country.

Speaking during a development tour in Laikipia North, Ruto said the administration is implementing what he termed an inclusive development agenda aimed at ensuring no community is left behind.

Among the key projects announced is the allocation of Sh4 billion for the construction of the long-awaited 60-kilometre Nanyuki–Doldol road, with the contractor expected to begin works shortly.

The project forms part of a broader 217-kilometre road network upgrade across the county.

The President also announced Sh60 million for the construction of five new schools in Laikipia North, aimed at improving access to education in the region, particularly in remote areas.

In addition, Ruto said the government is investing Sh15 billion in the Affordable Housing Programme, which will also include the development of 13 modern markets across the country to boost small-scale trade and local economies.

During the visit, the President also laid the foundation stone for the Doldol Huduma Centre in Laikipia North Constituency.

The facility will host an ICT hub and is expected to bring 168 government services closer to residents.

The Huduma Centre is part of the government’s ongoing push to decentralise public services and improve efficiency in service delivery.

Ruto also addressed residents of Doldol and handed over a bus to Kurum Day Secondary School, saying such interventions are meant to support education and improve mobility for students in rural areas.

He reiterated that his administration’s development strategy focuses on spreading resources across all regions, particularly historically marginalised areas.

The announcement comes amid increasing scrutiny of government spending priorities, with critics often calling for clearer timelines and accountability on large-scale infrastructure promises.
