NAIROBI, Kenya- Ol Kalou parliamentary aspirant Wangenye Ndung’u has expressed concern over what he termed as low voter turnout during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations in the constituency.
Wangenye said the exercise, which is part of the process to pick the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming by-election, has not attracted the expected number of voters, raising questions about voter engagement.
He noted that while the competition for the UDA ticket has been intense, with multiple aspirants in the race, participation at polling stations remained weaker than anticipated.
The Ol Kalou nominations come at a time when the party is seeking to consolidate support in Nyandarua County ahead of the by-election triggered by the death of the area MP.
At least ten aspirants are vying for the UDA ticket in a contest that has been described as a key test of the party’s internal democratic processes and popularity in the Mt Kenya region.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who is also UDA Deputy Party Leader, has previously urged aspirants to embrace consensus-building where possible while assuring them of a free and fair nomination process.
Wangenye, however, maintained that low turnout undermines the credibility of the process and urged party officials to strengthen mobilization and ensure broader participation in future exercises.
The UDA nomination process in Ol Kalou has also been closely watched as a precursor to the by-election, which is expected to shape political dynamics in Nyandarua County ahead of the 2027 General Election.
