Türkiye Boosts Kenya’s War on Narcotics with New Equipment for DCI Anti-Drug Unit

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The fight against narcotics trafficking and transnational organised crime in Kenya has received a significant boost after the Government of Türkiye donated computers and office equipment to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU).

The equipment was officially handed over during a ceremony held at the DCI Headquarters in Nairobi and received by Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed I. Amin alongside senior officers from the unit.

The donation underscores the growing security cooperation between Kenya and Türkiye, particularly in combating drug trafficking networks and organised criminal syndicates operating across borders.

Leading the Turkish delegation was Türkiye’s Ambassador to Kenya, Subutay Yüksel, accompanied by Counsellor for Security and Interior Affairs Ibrahim Çildir and the Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Kenan Yiğit.

Speaking during the handover, DCI Director Mohamed Amin said the support would strengthen the Anti-Narcotics Unit’s investigative capacity, intelligence management systems, and operational coordination in ongoing crackdowns on drug trafficking networks.

“This generous support reflects the strong friendship and strategic partnership between Kenya and Türkiye. It significantly enhances our operational readiness and institutional capacity in the fight against organised crime and drug trafficking,” Amin said.

He further noted that continued collaboration with Türkiye had also enhanced training and capacity building for Kenyan investigators, improving professionalism and preparedness in tackling evolving security threats.

On his part, Ambassador Yüksel praised the DCI for its sustained efforts in combating narcotics trafficking and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening bilateral security cooperation with Kenya.

“We stand firmly with Kenya in this fight and will continue supporting efforts aimed at enhancing collaboration and protecting our societies from transnational crime,” he said.

The donation marks another milestone in Kenya–Türkiye relations, with both countries signalling deeper cooperation in intelligence sharing, training and the fight against the global narcotics trade.
