U.S. Embassy in Qatar Orders Americans to Shelter in Place After Iran’s Attack

Date:

DOHA, Qatar — The U.S. Embassy in Qatar has issued a shelter-in-place advisory for all American citizens in the country, urging them to stay in secure locations until further notice amid rising tensions after coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.

The alert comes as regional security concerns intensify following military action earlier Saturday.

The embassy’s security message directs U.S. citizens to find a safe area within their residence or another secure building and maintain essential supplies such as food, water and medications.

It also urges Americans to avoid demonstrations, keep a low profile, and stay aware of their surroundings.

Officials recommended that U.S. citizens monitor local media for breaking developments, keep mobile phones charged, and stay in communication with family and friends about their status.

The advisory also encourages enrolment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive the latest updates on security conditions in Qatar.

The shelter-in-place instruction for all embassy personnel reflects growing caution as military tensions escalate in the Middle East.

The escalation began after U.S. and Israeli forces carried out significant strikes on Iranian targets, drawing concern from governments and diplomatic missions across the region.

The alert comes shortly after President Donald Trump confirmed the United States had begun “major combat operations” against Iran, in coordination with Israeli forces, targeting Iranian missile infrastructure and naval assets.

He described the campaign as necessary to eliminate “imminent threats” and warned Iran’s armed forces to surrender or face “certain death.”

Trump has portrayed Iran as a long-standing hostile power and a global sponsor of terrorism, emphasizing that Washington will not allow Tehran to develop nuclear weapons.

This has been a consistent theme of his remarks and the justification for the strikes.
