Wanjiku Muhia Claims DCI Arrested Driver Days After Security Withdrawal

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia has says that her personal driver was arrested by officers believed to be from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) along Thika Road, days after the withdrawal of her official security detail.

In a statement posted on social media on Saturday, the lawmaker claimed her driver was on his way to pick her up when he was intercepted by individuals travelling in Subaru vehicles.

“My personal driver has been arrested along Thika Road while coming to pick me and I do not know his whereabouts. DCI, you were evidently seen putting him in a Subaru, taking over my car while three other Subarus followed him to an unknown destination. Release him immediately,” Muhia said.

The MP further linked the incident to the recent withdrawal of her security officers, claiming she had been left without both security and transport.

“Note my security was withdrawn four days ago. I am now driverless and with no security. Could anything happen to me? The Government of Kenya is fully responsible,” she added.

As of Saturday evening, the DCI had not publicly responded to the allegations or confirmed whether the driver was in its custody.

The claims come just days after reports emerged that Muhia’s security detail had been withdrawn.

The move followed remarks she made during campaigns for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, where she was campaigning for a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate. a number of leaders allied to former Deputy President who have recently alleged harassment and intimidation by state agencies.

The alleged arrest comes amid heightened political tensions following the passage of the Finance Bill 2026 and ongoing campaigns ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election.

It remains unclear why the driver was allegedly detained, where he is being held, or whether any charges have been preferred against him.

The DCI and National Police Service had not issued an official statement on the matter by the time of publication.
