The burial service for the late Erastus Nduati descended into mayhem when goons disrupted the event, targeting Gachagua and his entourage.
The incident began as former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi addressed mourners, accusing the government of harassing Gachagua, who served as DP less than two years ago.
Mwathi alleged that the State had withdrawn Gachagua’s security detail in an attempt to marginalize him politically.
“This leader worked hard during his tenure, yet the government turned against him. Even his bodyguards have been taken away,” Mwathi said, before microphone malfunctions interrupted his speech.
As tensions mounted, chaos broke out. A group of unidentified individuals stormed the venue, bringing down tents and destroying the setup.
The disturbance sent mourners scattering, with some retaliating by throwing plastic chairs at the intruders.
Amid the turmoil, Gachagua’s vehicle was attacked with stones, shattering its rear window. Despite the assault, the former DP managed to flee unharmed.
Several attendees sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The motive behind the disruption remains unclear, but the incident underscores escalating tensions in Kiambu County’s political landscape.
Authorities are yet to comment on the incident, and no arrests had been reported at the time of publication.
