KAKAMEGA, Kenya — Chief Justice and Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Chairperson Martha Koome has reaffirmed the Judiciary’s commitment to strengthening the administration of justice and improving service delivery during a consultative meeting with the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Kakamega Chapter.
The meeting, led by LSK Kakamega Chapter Chairperson Innocent Ondieki, brought together members of the Judicial Service Commission and the Judiciary leadership to discuss progress made in enhancing access to justice in the region and address operational challenges affecting court services.
Also present were JSC Vice Chairperson Isaac Rutto, JSC Commissioner Jacqueline Ingutiah, JSC Secretary Winfridah Mokaya and members of the Judiciary leadership.
During the engagement, the LSK commended the Judiciary for several milestones achieved in the region, including the establishment of the Court of Appeal Bench in Kakamega, the deployment of an additional High Court judge, the posting of an Employment and Labour Relations Court judge, and the appointment of Small Claims Court adjudicators.
The advocates also acknowledged the establishment of Khwisero Law Courts, ongoing efforts to operationalise Lukuyani Law Courts and the appointment of Legal Researchers to strengthen the administration of justice.
Despite the progress, members of the LSK raised a number of operational concerns and proposed practical measures aimed at improving efficiency, reducing delays and enhancing access to justice for residents.
Justice Koome, together with Vice Chairperson Rutto and Commissioner Ingutiah, assured stakeholders that the Judicial Service Commission remains committed to continuous engagement with justice sector actors, institutional reforms and sustained investment in an independent, efficient, effective and accountable Judiciary.
The meeting also underscored the importance of collaboration among all justice sector stakeholders in combating corruption and strengthening public confidence in Kenya’s justice system.
