NAIROBI, Kenya – The death investigation of 22-year-old university student Consolata “Connie” Githinji has taken a major turn after an autopsy reportedly found multiple injuries sustained before her fatal fall from a sixth-floor Airbnb apartment in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area.
Investigators are now treating the case as a murder probe following postmortem findings that indicated Connie suffered fractures, blunt force trauma, and internal injuries before the incident that claimed her life in the early hours of April 26, 2026.
The findings have contradicted earlier claims that Connie jumped from the apartment after an argument.
According to details released after the postmortem, Connie sustained several serious injuries before the fatal fall.
Her left hand was broken, while both legs also suffered fractures believed to have occurred prior to the fall.
Pathologists also documented abrasions at the back of her head, suggesting head trauma before the incident.
The autopsy further found that one of her lungs had collapsed on the left side.
Investigators also cited significant blunt force trauma to her back, with officials stating the injuries were inconsistent with a simple fall from height.
Police initially handled the matter as a suspected suicide after early claims that Connie had jumped from the sixth-floor apartment following an argument.
However, the postmortem findings have shifted the direction of the case.
Detectives now believe Connie may have been assaulted inside the Airbnb before she fell to the third basement level of the building.
Investigators are examining whether a violent struggle occurred in the room shortly before the fatal incident.
Authorities have continued to hold the main suspect, Tony Odhiambo, as investigations proceed.
He had reportedly told investigators that Connie jumped after the two argued inside the apartment.
CCTV cameras captured signs of commotion or a struggle inside the room at about 4:32 am on April 26, shortly before the fatal fall.
Detectives are analyzing the footage to establish the movements inside the building and determine what happened in the final minutes before Connie died.
