BUSIA, Kenya — A 37-year-old man has been arrested in Busia after detectives recovered suspected narcotics during an operation targeting drug trafficking networks in the town’s Central Business District.
The suspect was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following a tip-off that led detectives to Busia’s main bus stage.
According to the DCI, officers intercepted the suspect and conducted a search on his backpack, where they discovered three packages wrapped in yellow cello tape containing cannabis sativa.
Detectives also recovered 26 sachets containing an unidentified powdery substance, which have been forwarded for forensic examination to determine their composition.
The suspect, identified as Ouma Dibogo Obobo, a resident of Migori County, was escorted to Busia Police Station alongside the recovered exhibits as investigations continue.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the illegal drug trade and prevent the movement of narcotics through Kenyan towns and border routes.
The agency said it remains focused on dismantling drug trafficking networks, intercepting illegal substances at entry points and ensuring individuals involved in the trade face legal action.
The arrest comes as security agencies continue to intensify operations against narcotics trafficking, particularly in areas considered vulnerable due to cross-border movement and transport networks.
Authorities have urged members of the public to continue providing information that can assist law enforcement agencies in identifying and disrupting criminal activities.
