NAIROBI, Kenya — Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-Kenya) leader Eugene Wamalwa has congratulated Sammy Douglas Kamau following his election as the Member of Parliament-elect for Ol Kalou Constituency, describing the outcome as a victory for democracy and the sovereign will of the people.
In a statement shared on X, Wamalwa said the by-election result demonstrated that the ballot remains stronger than intimidation, excessive force and political patronage.
“Congratulations to Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau on your election as the Member of Parliament-Elect for Ol Kalou Constituency.”
He added:
“Your victory is a resounding affirmation that in a democracy, the ballot remains more powerful than intimidation, excessive force, or the politics of patronage.”
Commends Ol Kalou Voters
Wamalwa praised the people of Ol Kalou for what he described as their resilience and commitment to defending their democratic rights during the by-election.
He alleged that there had been attempts to influence the outcome through voter inducements, intimidation and the deployment of state resources.
“Despite the well-documented attempts to influence the outcome through voter inducements, intimidation, and an overwhelming display of state machinery, you demonstrated that while votes may be sought with money and promises, they are ultimately cast by conscience.”
These allegations reflect Wamalwa’s views. Authorities had not publicly responded to the specific claims at the time of publication.
He further commended voters for exercising their constitutional right to choose their leader.
“You have reminded the nation that the sovereignty of the people cannot be bought, bullied, or broken.”
Looks Ahead to 2027 General Election
Wamalwa linked the Ol Kalou by-election to the broader political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election, expressing confidence that Kenyans would ultimately determine the country’s leadership through the ballot.
“Come 10th August 2027, the people of Kenya, just like the people of Ol Kalou, will once again speak through the ballot.”
He added that, in his view, no amount of money, intimidation or abuse of state power would override the will of voters.
Wamalwa concluded by wishing the MP-elect success in office.
“May God grant you wisdom and strength as you faithfully serve the great people of Ol Kalou Constituency.”
