NEW YORK, United States — Google has unveiled a new lineup of Pixel devices featuring an Android-compatible tracking tag, an upgraded smartwatch with expanded health monitoring capabilities and new artificial intelligence features designed to automate everyday tasks.
The company announced the products during a launch event in New York on Wednesday, with orders opening immediately and the devices scheduled to reach stores on August 20.
The new lineup includes the Pixel Tag, Pixel Watch 5 and Pixel 11 smartphone, as Google continues to integrate its Gemini artificial intelligence technology across its hardware ecosystem.
Pixel Tag takes on Apple’s AirTag
The Pixel Tag is Google’s answer to Apple’s AirTag, offering Android users a way to locate valuable items such as wallets, keys and luggage.
The tracking device is priced at $29.99 and can be connected to compatible Android devices. Google says its location technology is precise enough to help users identify the position of an item that has fallen behind furniture or into another difficult-to-reach location.
Google product manager Spencer Boone said the device can provide the level of accuracy needed for scenarios such as finding keys that have fallen behind a sofa.
The launch gives Android users a dedicated Google tracking device as competition in the personal-location technology market continues to grow.
Pixel Watch 5 expands health monitoring
Google also introduced the Pixel Watch 5, adding new features to the company’s wearable health and safety technology.
Earlier Pixel Watch models could detect signs of certain cardiac emergencies and automatically call emergency services. The latest model expands its health-monitoring capabilities to include indicators of potential respiratory problems.
The watch can detect situations in which a user may not be receiving sufficient oxygen and provide alerts that could prompt further action.
Google is also adding convenience features designed around everyday activities. The watch can track how many subway stops remain before a user’s destination and can automatically pause an audiobook or podcast if it detects that the listener has fallen asleep.
Pixel 11 puts Gemini at the centre
Google’s new Pixel 11 smartphone features deeper integration with Gemini, the company’s artificial intelligence assistant.
The company says the phone has been designed to complete more tasks with less input from users.
Among the demonstrations are AI functions capable of responding to messages based on information contained in a conversation. For example, the phone could automatically respond to a message asking about a flight’s arrival time.
The system can also assist with restaurant reservations based on the context of a conversation, reducing the number of steps users would normally have to complete themselves.
Another feature can convert a series of spoken commands into a coherent and concise text message, allowing users to communicate without manually composing their messages.
Google product leader Justin Savich described the new smartphone as being “purpose-built to do more for you with less from you.”
Google deepens AI push
The new devices represent Google’s latest effort to make artificial intelligence a central component of its consumer hardware strategy.
Google was initially caught off guard by the rapid rise of ChatGPT following its launch in late 2022, but the company has significantly accelerated its AI development and product integration since 2024.
Gemini now serves as a key component of Google’s strategy across smartphones, search and other consumer services, with the Pixel lineup providing a platform for demonstrating how AI can perform tasks on behalf of users.
The Pixel 11 starts at $899, while higher-end configurations will cost up to $1,899. The Pixel Watch 5 starts at $399.
With the Pixel Tag, Pixel Watch 5 and Pixel 11, Google is seeking to strengthen its hardware ecosystem while making Gemini-powered assistance, personal safety and device tracking more deeply integrated into everyday technology.
